Imo's Pizza "Driveway Moment" (2022)

I wanted to include this Imo's Pizza spot as an example of my willingness to be scrappy, make things work, stay nimble, and improvise to get the job done. The show must go on.

I did not write this script or concept. But I ended up being in the commercial. Let me explain.

As a writer, I was originally brought in to punch up the script, as well as the end of this spot, with a series of jokes and tag options. The mother, having a driveway moment, was to be interrupted by children knocking on her window at the end of the commercial. The day before filming, all the child talent we had cast dropped out. I realized the spot would still work if the character became The Husband. However, we had no husband cast as talent.

Somewhat reluctantly (I'm not an actor), I jumped in when asked by the director and crew.

I didn't know the commercial would be aired during every Cardinals game, leading to a number of texts every week from friends: "Dude, are you in an Imo's commercial??"

Yes, that's me. We did what we had to do to get the spot done, and the client was very happy with the results.

As for me, I still prefer to be on the writing side of the camera, but this was fun.
